Computational methods are rapidly becoming major tools of theoretical, pharmaceutical, materials, and biological chemists. Accordingly, the mathematical models and numerical analysis that underlie these methods have an increasingly important and direct role to play in the progress of many areas of chemistry. This book explores the research interface between computational chemistry and the mathematical sciences. In language that is aimed at non-specialists, it documents some prominent examples of past successful cross-fertilizations between the fields and explores the mathematical research opportunities in a broad cross-section of chemical research frontiers. It also discusses cultural differences between the two fields and makes recommendations for overcoming those differences and generally promoting this interdisciplinary work.
Five Hundred Mathematical Challenges
Authors: Edward J. Barbeau, Murray S. Klamkin, William O. J. Moser
Categories: Mathematics
Type: BOOK - Published: 1995-12-31 - Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
This book contains 500 problems that range over a wide spectrum of areas of high school mathematics and levels of difficulty. Some are simple mathematical puzzlers while others are serious problems at the Olympiad level. Students of all levels of interest and ability will be entertained and taught by the
Nine Mathematical Challenges: An Elucidation
Authors: A. Kechris, N. Makarov, D. Ramakrishnan, X. Zhu
Categories: Education
Type: BOOK - Published: 2021-09-24 - Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
This volume stems from the Linde Hall Inaugural Math Symposium, held from February 22–24, 2019, at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California. The content isolates and discusses nine mathematical problems, or sets of problems, in a deep way, but starting from scratch. Included among them are the well-known problems of

Variational Analysis and Aerospace Engineering: Mathematical Challenges for Aerospace Design
Authors: Giuseppe Buttazzo, Aldo Frediani
Categories: Mathematics
Type: BOOK - Published: 2012-04-23 - Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
This volume consists of papers presented at the Variational Analysis and Aerospace Engineering Workshop II held in Erice, Italy in September 2010 at the International School of Mathematics "Guido Stampacchia". The workshop provided a platform for aerospace engineers and mathematicians (from universities, research centers and industry) to discuss the advanced
Mathematical Challenges of Zero-Range Physics
Authors: Luigi Alessandro Michelangeli
Categories: Applied mathematics
Type: BOOK - Published: 2021 - Publisher: Springer Nature
Since long over the decades there has been a large transversal community of mathematicians grappling with the sophisticated challenges of the rigorous modelling and the spectral and scattering analysis of quantum systems of particles subject to an interaction so much localised to be considered with zero range. Such a community
Biosensors: Recent advances and mathematical challenges
Authors: Johann F. Osma, Margarita Stoytcheva
Categories: Science
Type: BOOK - Published: 2014-03-04 - Publisher: OmniaScience
Many researchers and research groups around the globe are dealing with interdisciplinary problems and multidisciplinary groups; but especially those that deal everyday with biosensors have the feeling of not having enough personnel with the sufficient background to cover all topics. With this feeling in our minds, we decided to invite
Mathematical Challenges in a New Phase of Materials Science
Authors: Yasumasa Nishiura, Motoko Kotani
Categories: Mathematics
Type: BOOK - Published: 2016-07-11 - Publisher: Springer
This volume comprises eight papers delivered at the RIMS International Conference "Mathematical Challenges in a New Phase of Materials Science", Kyoto, August 4–8, 2014. The contributions address subjects in defect dynamics, negatively curved carbon crystal, topological analysis of di-block copolymers, persistence modules, and fracture dynamics. These papers highlight the strong
